Nigerian skitmaker Shank Comics has stirred widespread reactions online after making bold claims about the wealth of top entertainers during a live streaming session.
In the viral clip, Shank compared the financial status of leading comedians and musicians, stating that popular comedians Bovi Ugboma and Basketmouth are significantly wealthier than some Afrobeats stars, including Asake and Wizkid.“I feel like comedy money is more.
I can swear to God, Bovi and Basketmouth are richer than Asake,” Shank said during the session. He argued that comedians often appear less flashy compared to musicians, which may lead many people to underestimate their financial strength.

Shank went on to highlight what he described as Bovi Ugboma’s modest lifestyle, noting that the comedian does not prioritize luxury cars or extravagant displays of wealth.“Bovi doesn’t just like cars. If he sees a Lexus, he’s okay. All those Ferraris and high speed on the express, Bovi doesn’t care. Comedians care about their lives,” he added.
He further took a swipe at the luxury lifestyle often associated with musicians, referencing expensive car brands and indirectly mentioning Burna Boy.“All those Ferrari and rubbish Burna Boy is buying, Bovi doesn’t focus on that… How much is Ferrari? How much is Lamborghini? How much is Cybertruck?” he said.
The comments have since sparked heated discussions across social media, with fans divided over the comparison. While some agreed that comedians may have stable and diverse income streams, others argued that top musicians generate significantly higher revenue through global tours, endorsements, and streaming platforms.
The debate has once again highlighted the differences in earning structures and lifestyle choices between comedians and musicians in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
